So again I was planning to do a reference to one of the Joel Schumacher movies. I don't dislike Batman Forever, I just think it's average. Sadly though, it had the potential to be the best film in the series with what it was exploring. From my understanding there were some darker more gothic scenes originally but they cut most of them out. The one scene that's partly still in the movie that feels like something that could have come from one of the Burton films is during Bruce's flashback he falls into the cave and sees a giant bat coming toward him in the dark. The way it's filmed and lit, it's a great visual image that's stayed with me and I wanted to honor that. But in the end it came down to the story and I could't find a way to include it and have it make sense in context of this being Alfred's memory. It's the one thing I had the hardest time cutting. 

Bruce's face here was based on that trailer for Arkham Origins where it's a close-up on Bruce's face throughout his life and they all maintain that same determined face that says "I'll never let this happen to anyone else." Needless to say it was a terrific trailer. Still never played the game but still.

One last thing, it's a shame that Tim Burton never did Arkham Asylum in any of his films because I would have loved to have seen his version. Schumacher again does a pretty good job with the design, it looks wonderfully gothic. Still can't help but wonder what might have been. It was nice of Schumacher to change Jeremiah Arkham into Dr. Burton.
