Description

Ok here is the first Ghostbusters Halloween picture, the next one will be posted on Halloween so look forward to that.
After I drew the Ghostbusters Meet Frankenstein [link] , I got to thinking about how during the early 90's Columbia Pictures (now Sony) went on this remaking spree of all the classic universal monsters, so unlike most of these this crossovers, this could actually happen, lol but I doubt it will.

Anyways so about each movie:
Bram Stoker's Dracula, to date the most accurate adaptation from the book but still changed A LOT from my understanding. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola it is visually fantastic, I use to think it was full of early cgi but as it turns out they shot most of it in a studio and use almost all practical in-camera effects. Gary Oldman as Count Dracula is great, he may not be as good as Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee but he still gives a very deep performance. Anthony Hopkins gives my favorite Van Helsing performance, you've never sure if he's crazy or is like the older versions where he knows everything. I wish they had more scene together but oh well. The rest of the cast is fine except Keanu Reeves, I'm just going to say I only like him in comedies when it comes to drama I've only ever liked him in The Matrix and Speed everything else he sucks. What makes it worse is the fact he can't hide his surfer accent and his english accent is so thin you can barely notice he's trying. Overall the film has some effective scares and weird imagery and is one of my favorite Dracula films but it has a number of miss steps and unintentionally funny scenes that unset the flow.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, again it's the most accurate adaptation that I've seen (and I've actually read this book) but towards the end it goes into a whole other direction. It's directed by Kenneth Branagh whole gives it great style and the music by Patrick Doyle is one of my favorite scores ever. The weak link is surprisingly Robert De Niro as the monster, I like the design but the main problem is that I never really felt sorry for this monster though I liked how they got the philosophical monster from the book. But overall his performance and the film on repeated viewing don't whole up well and is my least favorite of these remakes, just isn't as much to say about this one.

Lastly is Wolf, now technically it's not a remake, but the story is so similar I normally think of it as one. Also the reason it's Jack Nicholson from Wolf and not Bencio Del Toro from the Wolfman is because THAT MOVIE SUCKED!!! Anyways this is my favorite of these films and I consider it to be right under the original 1941 film and before American Werewolf in London. Jack plays a writing editor who is bitten by a wolf and is slowly turning into a wolf; strangely they never say the word werewolf in the movie. While this is going on Nicholson is falling in love with Michelle Pfeiffer and this is where the emotional core and tragedy comes from. Director Mike Nichols really seemed to want to do this in a very realistic way and for the most part it works. The only problem I have with the film is Rick Baker's make-up, it's so subtle it doesn't even look like a true werewolf but the rest of the film in my opinion makes up for it.
So anyways hope your enjoying the season and I'll see you all again soon with Ghostbusters meet........, I think you'll like it.

Ghostubsters and all these versions of the monsters are owned by Columbia.
