Description

So it's been said before that Batman is a modern Sherlock Holmes. I can see that, in the comics they often try to put more of an emphasis on him being a detective than as a crime fighter. Hell, Ra's Al Ghul doesn't even call him Bruce or Batman but "Detective" and one of Batman's other titles is The World's Greatest Detective. Needless to say the movies never emphasis that and as such while I like that aspect I've personally never seen it as big of a part as the bats are to his character like some people do. So I have no idea if this is from the comics but I felt like I had to address it and show where Bruce's detective skills began.

Also an interesting point I hate Robin. Sorry but I've always hated him, I never liked kid characters who are there to be "identified" with even when I was a freaking kid. I think he takes away from Batman, he's the opposite of what Batman is supposed to be. But he sure has been around a long time hasn't he, like him or not he is firmly a part of the mythos. As some (like MovieBob Chipman) have said Robin is the Watson to Batman's Holmes. But I still can't stand the character. What would I do if I was ever to do my version of Robin in one of my comics? Probably would mix the Batman Forever costume with the Teen Titans version. Or maybe I'd try and do the version from the conceptional art by Bob Ringwood (some sources say Batman Returns others say Batman Forever) I think that actually looks cool. I kinda don't mind Nightwing, a (mostly) grown man who is more of a partner (as in on equal terms) who only sometimes teams up.

Again got sidetracked by a mini rant, my cousin :iconsinnersstigmata: refers to Alfred as the second best Watson (the first being Watson himself) and I personally prefer that interpretation. Again the Keaton Batman is my favorite version of the character and he doesn't talk much so my favorite way to get information out of him (the most basic function of a Watson character) is for him to talk to Alfred.

Finally the Sherlock on the cover is based off of Peter Cushing. I tried to think who is most iconic Sherlock Holmes actor ever and I couldn't think of just one. I think it's because there have just been so many great performances throughout the years that it's practically impossible to pick, every generation gets a new name to add to the list. I picked Peter Cushing for the Hammer Films connection. I really liked Peter Cushing as an actor, I think one of the best examples of why he's so good was said best by James Rolfe (aka the AVGN) I'm paraphrasing here, look at his roles of Baron Von Frankenstein and Van Helsing. As far as makeup and costumes go they're basically the same, it's just Peter Cushing, if you weren't paying attention (like channel surfing) you could mistake which film you're watching. But in performance, there's no mistaking. He plays them so distinctly that there's no chance to confuse the two roles and you will probably forget about the other if you're really watching. Also interesting anecdote, despite Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee often playing adversaries on film they were best friends. And you can hear it in any interview with Christopher Lee where he talks about Peter Cushing. It's clear he misses his dear friend so much.

The collected works of Sherlock Holmes is based on a book my cousin owns with all of Edgar Allan Poe's works. Now I have no idea if all of the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories would take up a book that big but I figured better to go with a large book than small. Have I read any? Two, I can't remember the name of one but it had something to do with using a snake being used to kill people. And the other was The Hound Of Baskervilles which I honestly can barely remember any of. I don't read as much as I should. Also I do remember a cartoon called Sherlock Holmes In The 22 Century. But it was one of those shows as a kid I'd watch the theme song then as soon as the actual episode started I switched to something else (at that time in my life it was probably Archie's Weird Mysteries lol) Say what you want about the cartoon, the theme song was catchy as hell.
